REFEREE CLINICS – BOYS & GIRLS
Wakeman will have clinics for anyone interested in reffing the In-house games for both the boys and the girls. Dates and times will be listed on the website for those interested in being referees. If you are interested in reffing this year please email Andrew at Andrew@wakemanclub.com for further information.

Attention All Volunteer Lacrosse Coaches

COACHES TRAINING
Wakeman requires all coaches to attend a mandatory coaching certification program. The program will follow the guidelines of the American Sport Education Program (ASEP), a nationally recognized youth sport-coaching curriculum. It will include a 2-hour workshop covering a discussion of coaching responsibilities, planning techniques and legal obligations.
*All volunteers that are interested in coaching our lacrosse programs (3rd-8th grade) are required to attend a session prior to the start of the season.
The next date for Coaches Training will be posted here in the upcoming week (the March 6th date has been postponed).  Please look to this page for the next scheduled date.  The training classes typically take place on a Saturday morning at 9:00am and run for 90 minutes.

Please email Andrew Tremaglio at Andrew@wakemanclub.com to sign up for the coaching class.  The games first approach vs. teaching using skills-drills ending with a scrimmage is a fresh outlook that makes the players & coaches enjoy coaching while their players are learning & having fun.  Coaches that attend will be added to the volunteer list & will be considered based on availability and need on an individual basis each season.
Attending the course does not guarantee you will be slotted as a coach. Attendees will be given the latest edition of the “Coaching Youth Lacrosse” book that is loaded with games to play, practice planning tips & much more.
The volunteer coaches form will be posted on the Wakeman website and mailed to the parents of all children who
register their child to play in one of the lacrosse programs. This form will be mailed home in early February along with the dates for the coaches certification and practice times for the spring.

ONLY COACHES THAT ATTEND A SESSION WILL BE VIEWED AS CANDIDATES TO COACH AT WAKEMAN.
For more information about coaching classes and your status as a Certified Wakeman Coach, email Andrew@wakemanclub.com

Code of Conduct
US LACROSSE AND THE POSITIVE COACHING ALLIANCE
Lacrosse is the oldest American sport. Native Americans played lacrosse centuries ago, long before our colonies were settled. Through lacrosse, Native Americans celebrated and emphasized their spiritual and cultural values. In an effort to promote appropriate values in the modern game, US Lacrosse has partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance to promote positive coaching and good sportsmanship at all levels of lacrosse. US Lacrosse has included the following “Lacrosse Code of Conduct” as part of its membership application to encourage and foster appropriate values in players, coaches, parents, officials and spectators. US Lacrosse believes that it should be a priority of every lacrosse player, team, program and league to “Honor
the Game”.

US LACROSSE CODE OF CONDUCT
Players, coaches, officials, parents and spectators are to conduct themselves in a manner that “Honors the Game” and demonstrates respect to other players, coaches, officials, parents and fans. In becoming a member of the lacrosse community an individual assumes certain obligations and responsibilities to the game of lacrosse and its participants. The essential elements in this “Code of Conduct” are HONESTY and INTEGRITY. Those who conduct themselves in a manner that reflects these elements will bring credit to the sport of lacrosse, themselves, their team and their organization. It is only through such conduct that our sport can continue to earn and maintain a positive image and make its full contribution to amateur sports in the United States and around the world. US Lacrosse supports the following behaviors for those who participate in the sport or are involved in any way with US Lacrosse. The following essential elements of the “Code of Conduct” must be followed:

•    Sportsmanship and teaching the concepts of fair play are essential to the game and must be taught at all levels and developed both at home and on the field during practices and games.
•    The value of good sportsmanship, the concepts of fair play, and the skills of the game should always be placed above winning.
•    The safety and welfare of the players are of primary importance.
•    Coaches must always be aware of the tremendous influence they have on their players. They are to strive to be positive role models in dealing with young people, as well as adults.
• Coaches should always demonstrate positive behaviors and reinforce them to players, parents, officials and spectators alike. Players should be specifically encouraged and positively reinforced by coaches to demonstrate respect for teammates, opponents, officials and spectators.
•    Players should always demonstrate positive behavior and respect toward teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, parents and spectators.
•    Coaches, players, parents and spectators are expected to demonstrate the utmost respect for officials and reinforce that respect to players/teammates. Coaches are also expected to educate their players as to the important role of lacrosse officials and reinforce the ideal of respect for the official to players/teammates.
•    Grievances or misunderstandings between coaches, officials or any other parties involved with the sport should be communicated through the proper channels and procedures, never on or about the field of play in view of spectators or participants.
•    Officials are professionals and are therefore expected to conduct themselves as such and in a manner that demonstrates total impartiality, courtesy and fairness to all parties.
•    Spectators involved with the game must never permit anyone to openly or maliciously criticize, badger, harass or threaten an official, coach, player or opponent.
•    Coaches must be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the rules of lacrosse, and should adhere to the rules in both the letter and the spirit of the game.
•    Coaches should provide a basic knowledge of the rules to both players and spectators within his/her program.
Attempts to manipulate rules in an effort to take unfair advantage of an opponent, or to teach deliberate unsportsmanlike conduct, is considered unacceptable conduct.
•    Eligibility requirements, at all levels of the game, must be followed. Rules and requirements such as age, previous level of participation, team transfers, etc., have been established to encourage and maximize participation, fair play and to promote safety.

Sponsors Needed!
Sponsorship of Wakeman teams and leagues is a great inexpensive way to advertise your business while also helping to fund Wakeman’s extensive program offering. When a business sponsors a team or league, the name of that business is screened onto the shirts of all the team members. Typically, that means 10-12 children per team wearing your name on their backs for eight straight weekends at the club-not to mention all around town throughout the year. Hundreds of community members will begin to recognize your business as a proud sponsor of Wakeman youth athletic and educational programs!  You can sponsor the team of your own child, a neighbor, or our choice. Whether it is a third grade pee-wee team, high school spring basketball team, lacrosse, we have just the right shirt for your business.

In addition, your business name will be posted on our Sponsor’s Board in the Warren Gymnasium and you will receive a team photo/plaque to display in your place of business!
