McKinley Elementary School – 60 Thompson Street, Fairfield

Registration is now taking place for the late spring session of Wakeman athletic programs at McKinley.  Registration form is above.  Return form to McKinley School office on or before April 10th.  Programs meet from April 23rd-May 31st.

The Wakeman Outreach at McKinley is in its seventh year of providing after-school programs for McKinley’s diverse student population and volunteer opportunities for area high school students. The Outreach focuses on improvement of students’ social skills, general wellness/fitness, and academic performance. The Outreach also helps open the door to participation in Open Gym, after-school programs and leagues offered by Wakeman.

This past year’s program included hour long classes at McKinley three days a week in six week sessions throughout the school year. 2010-11 programs included: Preparing for Team Sports, Mighty Rope Jumpers, Field Games, Games From Around the World, Chess & Games Club, and more. Transportation from school to Wakeman’s Stratfield Clubhouse is available after school, as with other schools. The Wakeman Mentoring and Homework Club Programs serve nearly 100 McKinley students and 100 high school student volunteers. There are also opportunities for high school sports teams to adopt a Reading Club, where teammates help students to improve reading skills simply through reading with them. Through after-school mentoring and tutoring, McKinley students gain a consistent role model and strengthened academic skills while teens develop patience, compassion and knowledge while exploring careers working with youth.
