FIELD
HOCKEY FIELD HOCKEY IS HERE! This fall, Wakeman will offer members the opportunity to participate in field hockey. This six week program will give girls an exciting chance to experience the sport. The goal is to expose girls to a new sport, in which they will be able to enjoy for years to come. This program will provide the girls the opportunity to lean life lessons that sports continue to offer our participants year after year. During each session, participants will be taught the basic fundamentals of field hockey, while learning the rules of the game. This program will include a trip to a local high school to watch a field hockey game. The program will run Sundays on October 5, 12, 19, 26 and November 2nd and 9th. BEGINNERS WELCOMED AND ENCOURAGED TO JOIN!
Equipment Needed: Cage goggles (same as girls lacrosse), mouth guards, shin guards and a field hockey stick. FIRST 36 GIRLS TO JOIN WILL BE ALLOWED TO BORROW A STICK! Fee: $50 |

SMALL FRY FRIDAY
- SESSIONS I & II This program is a chance for all our "small fries" to participate in supervised athletic games in a friendly environment. Each member will receive a t-shirt for participating. Small Fry Friday will be divided into two sessions consisting of three Friday dates. Session I will take place September 12th, 19th and 26th from 4:15pm-5:30pm. Session II will take place October 3rd, 10th and 17th from 4:15pm-5:30pm. Due to limited space, mini members can register for only one session. If a session does not fill up then we will announce openings in the program. Registration begins August 19th.
PTS-PREPARING FOR TEAM SPORTS The goal of PTS is to teach the fundamental skills needed to play a variety of sports and games as well as introduce the members to the concepts of teamwork and sportsmanship. Sports will include basketball, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, baseball, capture the flag and much more! Classes will be held on Sept. 18th - Oct. 30th from 4:00pm-5:00pm for 1st grade and 5:15pm-6:15pm for 2nd grade. There will be no class on October 9th.
CHEERLEADING
- SESSION I , II & III Two, Four, Six, Eight..! Come and show your spirit and learn basic cheerleading skills in this six-week class. Members in grades 1st-2nd and 3rd-5th will learn how to use their enthusiasm to create an upbeat atmosphere to liven up any event. Classes will be very relaxed with an emphasis on having fun! After a six week session the girls will cheer at one of our Pee Wee basketball games.
DODGEBALL
TOURNAMENT With the aid of the Torch Club, Wakeman staff and Program Director Ruben Goodwin, Wakeman will host its fifth Dodgeball Tournament. Members are asked to gather a team of five or six players (single players will be placed on a team). Players will participate in a round-robin double elimination tournament, which will take place in the Warren Gymnasium. To register for the tournament, please fill out a registration form beginning October 7th. All participants will receive a t-shirt and have pizza and drinks. The tournament will be held on November 4th from 11:00am-2:00pm.
PLAY-A-THON Come join the Torch Club and help raise money for one of the many local charities on our area. This event is open for 1st and 2nd grade members from 4:00pm-6:00pm on September 30th. This event is an opportunity to raise while playing games and meeting new friends. Play-a-Thon participants will be divided into groups and will be rotated between several different areas of the club. Each area will feature a different game or activity! Participants must raise a minimum of $20 in order to participate.
CAMP
RUBEN This mini-camp is run by our enthusiastic Jr. Staff members and Athletic Director Ruben Goodwin. Typical days include dodge ball, Capture the Flag, Kickball, 2 Ball, basketball, game room tournaments and other exciting activities. The children will also receive lunch or dianner (pizza & drinks).
FLAG FOOTBALL Wakeman is offering a Flag Football league for 6th to 8th grade boys and girls. Members will play five on five fast paced football with 20 minute halves. All games will be on the Wakeman turf field. Teams will play one game a week at 3:45 or 4:45. Wakeman will supply all children with team shirts. Prior to the start of the game they will receive flags (cleats are optional). A mandatory evaluation for all participants will be held on September 9th at 4:00pm. Regular season games will be held September 17th-October 22nd and playoffs will be held the week of October 27th. After the championship game there will be an end of season pizza party that is free to all players who participated in the league…so come join us and have fun!
SPORT
COURT FRIDAY The national health society recommends that children get 60 minutes of exercise a day. What better way than getting involved in sports? Through this program the children will learn new sports as well as playing some old favorites such as Basketball, Wiffle Ball, Speed ball, dodge ball and other exciting games. Classes will be held September 19th-October 24th from 4:00pm5:15pm. Registration begins August 26th.
WEIGHT
TRAINING Instructional classes are offered to 8th graders only. The physical maturity of students younger than that is not recommended to train with weights. This session will cover proper lifting techniques and workout methods on the machines in the weight room. The class will also feature a discussion portion on the benefits of a healthy diet and good nutrition. Students only need to attend one of the sessions to be qualified to work out in the weight room during open hours. Session I will take place September 17th from 4:15pm-5:15pm. Session II will take place October 22nd from 4:15pm-5:15pm.
CONDITIONING
101 This is an instructional class for 8th-10th graders who are interested in taking the next step in weight training. If your child is considering playing a winter or spring sport than this is the kind of motivational class they’ll want! Members will learn how to train every major muscle group in the body as well as the best ways to go about it. Participants will not just learn the proper ways of weight lifting, but they will also learn how to build and maintain muscle. Classes will be held Thursdays from September 25th – November 6th from 4:00pm-5:30pm. No class on October 9th! Registration begins September 2nd.
HEALTH–FITNESS
& RUNNING CLUB Wakeman Boys and Girls is offering members in 6th-8th grade the opportunity to be a part of a Health, Fitness and Running Club. The club focuses on getting members in shape and maintaining their fitness levels. An instructor will teach members how to get in shape by providing a variety of fitness activities, healthy nutritional guidelines and running programs. Members will set goals, in which they will keep track of as they progress through the sessions. Members will improve their self-confidence and self-esteem. Other Wakeman staff members and volunteers will assist in a hardworking, but fun venture promoting healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Classes will be held Tuesdays from 3:45pm-5:00pm and Saturdays 12:00pm-1:30pm. Classes are from: September 23rd-November 18th (Tuesdays) No class on September 30th, November 4th or 11th–September 27th-November 15th (Saturdays).
FLEX &
STRETCH This fall Wakeman will be offering a class for 6th-8th grade girls taught by Certified Yoga instructor Nicky Wills that will focus on improving strength and posture, breathing fully and reducing stress, increasing focus and energy, building strength, developing stamina and raising confidence and ability for all sports. This class will focus on having fun in a relaxed environment while learning how to utilize your body to its full potential. Class will be held Mondays, November 3rd-December 8th from 5:45pm6:45pm.
AFTER SCHOOL
SPORTS CLUB - GIRLS Under the guidance of the Triple Play Sports Club members, Wakeman is offering an after school program for girls in 3rd-5th grade. The girls will come down after school and participate in homework time where they will be assisted by high school members of the Triple Play Club, sport games such as basketball, dodge ball, capture the flag and other favorites. They will also be given snack, participate in arts and crafts and gameroom tournaments. The After School Club will meet on Tuesdays beginning September 16th –October 28th from 3:30pm-6:00pm. No class 9/30. Registration begins August 20th.
